# Using DISC/Birds to Drive AI Adoption on Your Team

## Using DISC to Drive AI Adoption on Teams

##### Key Takeaways

- Internal buy-in fails when teams apply the same usage expectations to everyone — because your Bird style shapes how you engage with AI just as much as it shapes how you lead and communicate.
- Eagles, Parrots, Owls, and Doves each unlock different value from AI tools: from sharpening strategy and sparking creativity to structuring complexity and strengthening communication.
- The real competitive advantage isn’t having AI tools at your disposal — it’s understanding how different behavioral styles use them best.

AI adoption inside organizations is uneven for one simple reason: everyone approaches AI differently.

Some jump in immediately. Some hesitate. Some experiment creatively. Some test every output line by line. And many teams are quietly frustrated because they assume there’s only one “right” way to use AI, and everyone thinks their way is the best way.

There isn’t.

What we’ve seen over and over is this: your Bird style doesn’t just shape how you lead and communicate, it shapes how you engage with the technology you use every day. If you try to force AI into a workflow that fights your natural wiring, it becomes an exhausting friction instead of useful.

Eagles, Parrots, Owls, and Doves all use AI differently. None of those approaches is better. The opportunity is understanding.

## **Where Teams Get Stuck**

Most teams struggle with AI for one of three reasons:

1. They assume it’s a replacement tool instead of an amplifier.

1. They apply the same usage expectation to everyone.

1. They focus on features instead of behavioral fit.

If you force an Eagle into hours of prompt tinkering, frustration builds.

If you tell a Parrot to “slow down and validate everything,” they’ll lose interest.

If you expect a Dove to copy and paste outputs without editing, trust erodes.

If you tell an Owl to “just experiment,” they’ll resist.

When people use AI in ways that match how they already think and work, adoption increases naturally. Here are how the different Bird styles can maximize the value of AI tools.

## **Eagles: Use AI to Accelerate Strategic Thinking**

Eagles are decisive, results-oriented, and forward-focused. You don’t need more information; you need the right information quickly.

AI is a force multiplier for speed and strategic clarity.

How AI works best for Eagles:

- Comparing high-level approaches

- Identifying trade-offs between options

- Exploring trends and possible future scenarios

- Stress-testing decisions before you commit

What it is not for you: micromanaging execution details where you’ll lose patience quickly.

Instead of asking AI to build a fully detailed implementation plan, ask it to expand your field of vision. Use it to surface angles you may not have considered. Then do what Eagles do best: decide.

Try these prompts:

- “What are three strategic approaches to solving \[problem\]? Outline pros, cons, and risks in a bulleted list.”

- “If you had to recommend one direction, which would you choose — and why? Include key trade-offs and first steps.”

- “What unintended consequences might arise if we choose this direction?”

- “What metrics would determine whether this strategy is succeeding or failing within 90 days?”

The key for Eagles is restraint. AI can generate endless information. That doesn’t mean you need all of it. Use it to clarify direction to avoid drowning in data, but help you expand your focus a bit to make better decisions.

## **Parrots: Use AI to Generate Momentum**

Parrots thrive on energy, creativity, and possibility. You’re comfortable experimenting. You’re curious about new tools. AI feels exciting to you because it’s interactive.

When used well, it becomes a creative collaborator.

How AI works best for Parrots:

- Brainstorming ideas

- Test different ways to frame a message

- Reframe challenges or opportunities from new perspectives

- Turn a big idea into a practical outline

Think of AI as a whiteboard that never runs out of space.

The danger for Parrots isn’t overthinking, it’s overproducing and trying to be a one-person assembly line. AI can help you generate 50 ideas in five minutes. That’s fun. But momentum without selection leads to noise.

The discipline here is simple: generate widely, then narrow intentionally.

Try these prompts:

- “Give me ten unconventional ways to drive engagement around \[initiative\].”

- “If we wanted this \[initiative, campaign, idea\] to gain rapid traction, what bold moves would we consider?”

- “If we rejected conventional thinking, how else could we approach this?

- “What’s a perspective on this challenge that most organizations overlook?”

Let AI help you explore. Then use your instincts to choose what resonates.

Creativity still belongs to you. AI just accelerates the first draft of possibility.

## **Doves: Use AI to Draft and Reframe Communication**

Doves lead with empathy. You think about how words land. You value tone and clarity. That makes you strong communicators, but it can also slow you down because you care about getting it right.

AI is helpful as a starting point, not a final voice.

How AI works best for Doves:

- Drafting internal emails

- Creating meeting agendas to make sure everyone is included

- Reframing difficult conversations

- Adjusting tone for different audiences

The important part: always personalize your content before sending.

AI can give you three versions of a tough message: direct, collaborative, and firm but supportive. You choose what fits the relationship.

Try these prompts:

- “Draft a message giving constructive feedback about missed deadlines. Keep it respectful and solution-focused.”

- “Rewrite this email to sound more collaborative.”

- “Help me simplify this explanation so it’s clearer.”

- “How might this message be received by different stakeholders, and how can I adjust it to maintain trust and alignment?”

For Doves, AI reduces the pressure of the blank page. It doesn’t replace your relational intelligence.

Use it to draft. Then add the humanity only you can bring.

## **Owls: Use AI as a Structuring Tool, Not a Source of Truth**

Owls are analytical, precise, and detail-oriented. You care about accuracy. You want logic. You don’t trust outputs blindly (and you shouldn’t!).

AI works best for you as a drafting and organizing assistant.

How AI works best for Owls:

- Structuring information you’ve already vetted

- Creating outlines from research

- Categorizing themes

- Turning notes into organized summaries

Where it doesn’t work well: replacing your fact-checking process.

The mistake many Owls make is rejecting AI entirely because it isn’t perfect. But perfection isn’t the standard — usefulness is.

Treat AI outputs as hypotheses. You test them. Refine them. Improve them.

Try these prompts:

- “Here’s my research \[paste content\]. Organize this into a clear executive summary.”

- “Group these findings into themes and subcategories.”

- “Identify logical gaps in this argument.”

- “What assumptions is this analysis based on — and which ones need further validation?”

Start small. Build confidence by verifying line by line. Over time, you’ll see where it reliably saves time.

AI doesn’t remove your rigor. It reduces the mechanical workload so you can apply that rigor more strategically.

## **The Bigger Opportunity**

AI isn’t about automation so much as it’s about leveraging strengths that are already there:

- Eagles use it to sharpen strategy.

- Parrots use it to spark creativity.

- Owls use it to structure complexity.

- Doves use it to strengthen communication.

Every organization needs all four lenses.

The real competitive advantage isn’t just having AI tools at your disposal; it’s understanding how different behavioral styles unlock different value from those tools.

That’s the forward-looking shift: stop asking, “How should we use AI?” Start asking, “How does each style use AI best?”

Because when people feel aligned with how they work, they move faster. They trust the tool more. They get better outcomes.

AI is not the differentiator.

How your people use it is.
