“We have historically done — and still do — a very good job of training the technical skills, but we heard from our employees that they wanted more connection with other leaders and help on how to better manage their teams.” -Jackie Fisher, Director of Human Resources
How Velocity Advisory Group Helped
Juneau partnered with Velocity Advisory Group to implement an Emerging Leaders program tailored for their mid-level managers. The program is designed for high-potential, mid-level leaders with the capacity for growth and includes strategic and engaging workshops, toolkits, frameworks, homework, and group cohort coaching. By targeting leaders at the right stage in their careers, participants were ready to absorb new skills and apply them immediately in their roles. The cohorts focused on leadership skills development, communication strategies, and cultivating behaviors that would create a ripple effect across the organization.
Velocity’s Emerging Leaders program is known for helping build more effective leaders, stronger company culture, and higher retention.
“For the capstone projects, we tasked the cohorts with addressing larger-scale company challenges we wanted to get some fresh, new ideas on. It allowed participants to take on initiatives beyond their day-to-day and offer solutions without the risk of failure. We’ve implemented something new from each cohort, ranging from major transformations to smaller, procedural changes.” -Jackie Fisher, Director of Human Resources
The Results
The program’s results were both quantitative and qualitative, demonstrating clear value for the company and its employees:
- 40% of the first cohort participants were promoted within two years of completing the program
- 95% retention rate among the first cohort (industry average at the time was 54%)
- Stronger cross-team collaboration, with leaders engaging more frequently across different locations
- Visible improvements in delegation, communication, and team management — throughout the organization
